How to Turn On Siri AI on Your Mac (And Who Can Use It)

Siri AI is the biggest new thing in macOS 27 Golden Gate, and it is also labeled a beta. Whether you can use it depends on your Mac, your language and where your Apple Account is registered. Here is how to switch it on and what to check if the option is missing.

What you need

  • macOS 27 Golden Gate or later
  • A Mac with an M1 chip or later, or a MacBook Neo (A18 Pro), with Apple Intelligence turned on
  • Your device language and your Siri language set to the same supported language. Apple lists English, French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish
  • An eligible region. Apple says it is not available in mainland China, and that it is not available for users under 13

Apple adds that usage limits may apply to some features that rely on server-side models. If your Mac is not on the supported list, check which Macs run macOS 27 first.

How to turn on Siri AI on a Mac

  1. Open System Settings.
  2. Click Siri in the sidebar. You might need to scroll down.
  3. If Siri is off, click Turn On Siri, then choose Try Siri AI (Beta). If Siri is already on, click Try Siri AI (Beta).
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions.

On other devices, Apple’s page says you may be asked to choose a voice, complete voice enrollment and review privacy settings. Siri AI starts downloading automatically, and during high demand you may be put on a waitlist first.

What Siri AI can do

Apple lists these features:

  • World knowledge for answering almost any question
  • Personal context to find things in Messages, Mail, Calendar, Notes and Reminders
  • Onscreen awareness: ask about what is on your screen, using Shift-Command-Space bar or Command-Shift-6 for part of the screen
  • App actions such as sending messages and creating events
  • A Siri app that keeps your conversation history synced with iCloud
  • Write with Siri to draft or edit text almost anywhere you type

I do not see “Try Siri AI (Beta)”

  1. Make sure you are on macOS 27 and that Software Update shows nothing pending.
  2. Check your Mac against Apple’s compatibility list.
  3. Check that your device language and Siri language match and that both are supported.
  4. Check the region of your Apple Account.
  5. Check for a waitlist or demand message in the setup screen.
